Bulldog Boxing Gym

Have you a Park close by? You do? Great! Take a brisk walk down there one evening and take in the surroundings. What do you see? Kids kicking a ball, some people walking their dogs or others just using it as a short cut to the pub.

I did this same thing some time ago and came to the conclusion that that my local park needed some life injected into it, so I wrote to the local authority and now have their kind permission to run an outdoor fitness class.

The morning of the first class arrived, I looked out of the window….it was raining. How many people would want to come out in the rain on a Saturday morning? My fears were soon dissolved when I arrived at the Park to find a small group of hooded enthusiasts ready to get fit and lose weight in the fresh air!

The class structure varies each week but common threads of exercises are there such as:

* Push Ups;
* Lunges;
* Squats;
* Sprints/Jogging;
* Star Jumps;
* Crunches.

Variety is added by including equipment such as Medicine Balls and Boxing Gloves / Pads. Some weeks I split people into teams and set targets, other weeks people are working together in pairs. I’ll play team games that you used to play in school such as Bulldog. It’s great to see people laughing when they exercise. Do you see that on a treadmill in a sweaty and soulless Gym? I don’t think so! People encourage each other and bonds are developing. Who could you work out in the local park with? Having a work out buddy will increase your chances of success in hitting your targets.

The class has grown in popularity and so much so I now run outdoor fitness classes in 5 different parks and in all weathers! Not only are my class members getting fitter with each session they are getting to know people living in their neighbourhood, people who they previously would have passed in their street without even making eye contact. They now greet each other like old friends and catch up with the local news. I have people from all walks of life, the bar maid, the local Radio DJ, the Beauty Therapist and her daughters, the IT consultant ,the Legal Secretary and retired local Government official.

So search the Internet or ask around and if you haven’t got class running in your local park I would sincerely hope that if you contacted your local authority and asked them they would try their best to make this happen.

Good luck, keep healthy and I hope you manage to flatten your tummy
