how do you determine a +/- rating in basketball?
I play and watch hockey, where a +/- rating is simple enough. Our game is played 5-on-5 (except when someone commits a penalty, in which case that player’s team is “shorthanded” and the other team is on the “power play”) In our game ONLY IN 5-on-5 “even strength” situations does a player on the ice get a +1 if they’re on the team that scored the goal and a -1 if they’re on the team that allowed it. Does basketball use a similar system to determine this by? Because looking at box scores makes it a bit confusing.
look at how much the lead increase or decrease when a play comes in.
