During the sparring sessions it is always a good idea that protective gear is used, although it is not thought of as being injured as badly as some boxers have in the past, steps are taken to ensure that the fighter is in tip top shape on the day of the match. They use training gloves with additional padding, and instep and shin guards for protecting their lower legs. The head gear is made to cover the head and protecting the ears, and now they even use a full face shield.
MMA routine training means that the fighter will be training beyond what they ever thought was possible. They will be using weight lifting and a kettle ball as well as a grappling dummy, which is still heavy due to the dummies dead weight. Their training also consists of pull-ups, dead lifts, squats, power-cleans, bench presses and sit-ups. They are also given extensive training in endurance by doing exercises from kneeling and seated positions as well as teaching how to sustain higher intensities for longer periods of time. MMA training includes cardiovascular endurance and stamina using sprints, stair climbing and running, rope skipping, and medicine balls or kettle ball workouts.
Female MMA fighters have more flexibility than men do, however their exercises are more tuned to increase the stability as well as the strengthening their ankles, knees, and hips.
